OEM Specialized Services

Swift Water Team
Much water training has been done and the OEM has been able to get a dive team certified and ready to serve. Should a water emergency of some kind happen, the dive team would be called in response and would perform rescue maneuvers or at the very least, aid in recovery of bodies and or property. Also, a water rescue vehicle (specially equipped boat) has been purchased through grant monies and outfitted for whatever water emergency should occur.

Haz-Mat
Hazardous Materials is the correct name for this area of OEM service. Through government grant monies, OEM has been able to receive training and acquire the needed equipment to deal with hazardous materials of any kind. The Haz-Mat team was established to plan, prevent, respond and mitigate chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) incidents through the use of special operations and tactics on a regional basis. The Fire Departments of Columbia, Mt. Pleasant, Spring Hill and Maury County, the Sheriff's Department of Maury County, the Maury Regional Emergency Medical Services, and the Columbia Police Department's Hazardous Device Unit comprise the team designated to deal with this kind of emergency.

Bomb Squad
Should an explosive device of any kind cause the public to be at risk, a Bomb Squad has been readied to deal with the incident. This would include devices or materials that may be needed in construction to terrorist activity in our mid-state area. Again, government grants have been used to outfit and prepare squad members. (OEM takes the lead in this kind of situation along with the Columbia Police Department's Hazardous Device Unit.)
